A classic sounding rocket joint is called a Radac
joint. It fits two tapered sections together and
secures them with a bolt circle that is angled to the
taper. The male part of the joint is also relieved at
an angle making a recess for the bolt circle. Very
expensive to produce, but makes for a reliable and
accurately aligned joint. To separate, though,
requires a shaped cord to cut the skin or a zip-cord
arrangement which uses explosive cord to deform the
skin to the point of rupture.
Making a precision metal joint and then permanently
attaching the airframe and the NC to the upper and
lower sections of the joint is another excellent way
to proceed. It remains to be seen if these measures
are necessary.
