Great report Roman!
A couple of comments:
3. Thermal properties and thermal conductivity: I think there was supposed
to be a link there, but I can't open the PDF directly.
4.3 HF properties: CFC absorbs a *lot* of RF energy. Ask me how I know.
If we use this material for our nosecone we will need to move the antenna
external to the nosecone or further down the body. The payload group may
also require that we provide mounting for a set of antennas around the
airframe
circumference.
Just separating a section of the nosecone as an antenna would only work
for a narrow sector of the 360' 3D world. We would not be able to 'see' the
antenna from the ground during flight, and we would not be able to see a
single strip for around 300' during descent. I am assuming the nose will
be pointed up during ascent and down during descent.
A picture would be worth a thousand words here, but imagine the graphic
of the Death Star field of fire while approaching Tatoine.
Notes for Design - 1.Tip: Sorry, I have a hard time following your language
here.
Notes for Design - 1.2: I am missing this section
Notes for Design 3. Transient section: Good notes here. Another solution
for the recovery would be to avoid separating the structure here where we
have loading and thermal problems. We don't want the nosecone to heat,
swell, and lock in the body preventing separation. Another solution would
be to eject the recovery device from a bay out the side of the rocket.
A third solution would be to separate the airframe below the transient
section.
Notes for Design 4: Great list of topics for the group leads to add to their
'to do' lists!
Notes for Design 5: There are a lot of other conditions to consider. Should
we over-engineer for our data to be able to survive a 'Venus probe' style
landing?
Thanks for all the hard work!
